Just in time for the start of the week, the last-generation climate stickers made themselves felt again in Vienna’s morning traffic. This time, a group dispersed at the Secession on Karlsplatz at the corner of Naschmarkt in the first district.
Several participants took to the streets with banners (“What if the government has no plan?”) at 8:00 a.m. and have been blocking traffic ever since. Sticking to roadways is also part of the protests. This is currently causing huge delays in early traffic.
Tempo 100 as an immediate measure
Already on Sunday, the climate activists presented their next action in Vienna on Twitter: “For first immediate measures such as speed 100 on highways instead of expanding deadly fossil fuel-based infrastructure that puts our democracy at great riskthey explained on their account.
Last week, climate activists of the last generation announced a second wave of disturbances across Vienna to draw attention to the current climate crisis. This time it should take two weeks.
More than 300 new requests
In the run-up, climate activists were also happy with increasing growth. “In recent weeks we have had more than 300 requests from supporters. We can therefore expand our activities,” explains spokeswoman Martha Krumpeck.
Accept fines
The activists of the last generation are calling for a “radical rethink” of the climate crisis. To draw attention to this, they use radical forms of protest, such as sticking to the street or dousing famous paintings with paint or soup. They also accept sanctions for this.
