A whole series of wild and tragic winter sports accidents took place in Tyrol on Sunday: In addition to a dangerous incident during ice climbing in the Ausserfern and a devastating sleigh accident in the lowlands, the rescuers were once again in continuous action on the ski slopes. Unfortunately, there was also a death in the Tannheimer Tal.
The series of accidents started around 11:45 a.m. in Grän in the Reutte district. When ice climbing on the Rappenschrofen, a German ice ax tore out on the second throw and the man fell. Because the 37-year-old could be kept in backup mode by his climbing partner (26), the incident was relatively easy. He suffered injuries to his ankle and abrasions to his face, police said. The German was rescued by the RK-2 emergency medical helicopter and then flown to the clinic in Pfronten.

Unfortunately, an hour later, a skiing accident in nearby Tannheim was anything but easy. A 19-year-old German got lost in the ski area Neunerköpfle lost control on the descent, came off the slope and fell into the adjacent forest. The young man was also seriously injured and flown with the RK-2 rescue helicopter to the hospital in Kempten, where he sadly died a short time later.
Boy bumped into board

Less than an hour later there was another crash in the Pitztal: a 30-year-old German was hit by an unknown skier on the Hochanzeiger. The woman suffered serious pelvic injuries. “After the arrival of the piste rescue service, the perpetrator was requested to drive down to the middle station with the piste rescue service. The skier then drove down the valley at high speed without revealing his data. A search for the man was unsuccessful, police said.
Crashed into a tree stump
Skiing accident with serious consequences on Sunday also in the Tyrolean lowland: A German (23) fell in the Wilden Kaiser ski area in the Hopfgarten municipality, after which he left the slopes and fell over a steep embankment. Finally, the young man crashed into a snowy tree stump. He suffered serious injuries as a result. He was flown by ambulance helicopter to Kufstein District Hospital.
Four injured in toboggan accident
In the evening, a fatal accident in lowland tobogganing finally happened: a Danish couple (47 and 52) wanted to prevent pedestrians going uphill in the municipality of Oberndorf – the two came off the toboggan run and crashed into a tree.
But that’s not all: a few sleds following behind (both 19 years old) were shocked by the accident, also lost control of the wheel and crashed into the same tree. The two 19-year-olds were slightly injured, the 52-year-old and the 47-year-old seriously. They were taken by ambulance to the St. Johann district hospital.
