The first 100 days of the Black-Rud-pink coalition are over- and secretary-general of the ÖVP, Nico Marchetti, attracts a positive balance. Despite the difficult budget and political differences, he is convinced that the government has acted stably so far. He is especially proud of the decision of the double budget, which was a “huge task” and was decided as a “team performance without a dispute, but really united in this issue”.
An important focus of the ÖVP in the government was the subject of security. “In the essential points that were important for the ÖVP, we really showed our handwriting when it comes to safety,” explains the Secretary General. Similarly, when renovating the budget, the caution was spent not suffocating the economy, but to create specific incentives for the economy.
In future reforms, Marchetti sees economic growth in the most important place. In the future, this will influence the focus in the energy sector: “The energy costs are a large location factor and they are simply too high in Austria compared to the EU – for private households, but also for industry.” It does not necessarily require more money for this: “Reform does not always have to spend money automatically, reform means that you also question structures and processes.”
There is a common team spirit in the coalition. The ÖVP politician finds debates about the public breakdowns of Sepp Schellhorn (Neos). Marchetti: “All politicians have service cars. I think these debates have not been led incredibly objectively and they should not overestimate.”
