Hundreds of thousands of weapons – so “upgraded” are the lower Austrians

Date:

After the terrible murder in Graz, the private ownership of firearms came into the picture again. In any case, access to guns and pistols should be made more difficult in the future. But how many of such weapons are – legally – in circulation in LoWower Austria?

Shock, sadness, despair – the murder with death shots in a school of Graz has changed the country. Suddenly it cannot be fast enough with a reform of arms legislation that is often necessary. In the future it should no longer be so easy to get to a gun or a gun for “home use”.

“Armed” Federal State
A look at the current statistics of the Ministry of the Interior shows that Lower Austria is also an “armed” federal state. After all, 80,246 people are registered as weapons owners between Enns and Leitha. This number cannot only be explained with hunters. What seems even more open: the private households in the wide country are currently being upgraded with 439,269 firearms – that is an average of 5.5 shooting iron per registered owner.

What is forbidden, what is allowed
In general, three categories are differentiated in arms legislation. Category A includes prohibited weapons and war material – a small pump guns and hand grenades. Their assets are not allowed. Fish Fir -Weapons and Semi -Automatic firearms fall into category B. These can be legally obtained, a condition is a weapon pass or a gun ownership and a minimum age of 21 years. Category C weapons are used to mean guns and shotguns. These are allowed from the age of 18, but the owners are not allowed to carry them with them.
