First water rescuer Anita pulled her Johnny from the inn, then he proposed to her on the bank. Of course, the chosen one could not refuse. She said “yes” to the surprise.
A water rescue exercise in Innsbruck couldn’t be more romantic than the one on Tuesday night. Johannes Gitterle, a “support” member, had devised a secret plan with colleagues to surprise his Anita Siller with a marriage proposal where she’d never expect it – at the inn!
“She had often asked me to swim with her in the Inn”, the resident of Landecker (25) chats out of the box. The answer was always the same: “No ten horses can get me in there!” You think…
“Then we threw him in the inn”
“As part of the weekly training, the river rescuers had to get people out of the Inn on Tuesday,” said water rescuer Konrad Kirchebener, a friend of the couple. “We put Johannes in his uniform, gave him a torch and the engagement ring, and threw it at the inn on Emile-Béthouart-Steg,” Kirchebner laughs. In it, he drifted towards his future wife.
The 27-year-old began with devotion to the supposedly unknown and pulled him ashore – in the truest sense of the word. The element of surprise succeeded, because Anita did not immediately recognize Johannes. Surprise and joy were all the greater when he asked Anita’s hand on the couch. “She immediately said ‘yes'”, says Johannes beaming with joy. This was followed by a toast with the sparkling wine prepared by colleagues.
Wedding 2023
The couple, who live in Neustift im Stubai and got to know each other while studying pharmacy, do not have a wedding date yet. “It will probably be in 2023,” Gridle announced. Before the celebration could go ahead, Johannes—still in the rescue gear from the water—was on duty as a paramedic. He treated a cyclist who had an accident a few meters from the inn. Fortunately not much happened.
Keyword “happiness”: That’s exactly what the “crown” wishes the couple.
