Due to the violent storm on Thursday, a train derailed in the Graz district that had joined a fallen tree. The fire brigade had to cut the road through the rough terrain and evacuate 57 passengers. Nobody was injured.
The storm raged particularly violently on Thursday in the styric district of Graz, especially storm damage used the emergency services. In Nestelbach, the Mitterlaßnitz district, even a passenger train derailed after crashing against a fallen tree.
“Very massive trees destroyed”
“It happened exactly on a very rough part in the middle of the forest. No access road was free. We first had to free our way and sometimes very massive trees fell over,” says operations manager Christoph Hable of the Nestelbach Volunteer Fire Brigade.
57 passengers were on the train, nobody was injured. The fire brigade accompanied the people from the wagons. They were transported with a bus.
All folded together
After the Nestelbach Fire Brigade had already moved to 34 locations on Monday, on Thursday 16 further missions had to be processed on Thursday. “And it would have been much more if the population had not helped so active,” says Operations Manager Hable. Many farmers in particular helped with their tractors.
