“Much bloodshed” – “rogue state”: Sunak attacks Putin’s Russia

Date:

Shortly before the start of the G20 summit, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sharply criticized Russia and its President Vladimir Putin for the war against Ukraine. “We will not allow our economic future to be held hostage to the actions of a rogue state – and neither will our allies,” the head of government stressed.

Putin will not come to the summit on the Indonesian island of Bali, but will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“The man responsible for so much bloodshed in Ukraine and economic turmoil around the world will not be there to confront his colleagues,” Sunak wrote in an op-ed for the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

Sunak wants to extend the five-point plan
Like Britain, Russia is a member of the Group of Great Economic Powers (G20). At the meeting, Sunak wants to move forward with a five-point plan of issues that require global coordination. The goal is to prevent Russia from “suffocating the world economy”.

The priority is to support “where it is most needed”, for example for Ukraine or for consumer energy bills.

In addition, Russia’s use of food as a weapon must end, supply chains must be secured, and energy dependence on Russia must be rejected, Sunak wrote. After all, it is about promoting global free trade and guaranteeing financial stability.
