Referring to the fight between Pablo Iglesias and Yolanda Díaz, the coordinator of Podemos Euskadi places the differences within “normality in a process of articulation”. He is convinced that they will be able to “create that new space that will generate excitement in society”.
Euskaraz irakurri: Garrido: “Egoak alde batera utzi eta eskuzabal jokatu behar da politikan”
While everything indicates that the clash between Pablo Iglesias and Yolanda Díaz will complicate an alliance between Podemos and Sumar by 2023, Podemos Euskadi’s coordinator and Gipuzkoa’s deputy in Congress, Pilar Garrido, is confident that they will be able to create a common space for the next general election. It recognizes that there are difficulties and disagreements, but puts them in a context of “normality” within “any process of articulation”. “In this time of articulation, it is important that we go together and take responsibility. Each part is given its space within a joint project. The goal should be to add and go further together,” she emphasized in an interview at the ” Boulevard” program of Euskadi radio.
Asked if Iglesias should step aside, Garrido pointed out that “egos and personalisms in politics” must be set aside in order to “act generously”. As a “former leader”, he thinks it makes sense that Iglesias has “his place”, but assures that “at the moment Yolanda is in charge”. “I think she’s going to be a great candidate,” he qualified.
In this sense, he does not believe that all these disagreements will take their toll on the purple formation in the 2023 elections in the CAV. “I think we can convey that idea that an alternative project to the PNV is possible.”
On the other hand, regarding the budget negotiations, Garrido has also been optimistic and does not see a deal as impossible, “otherwise we wouldn’t have tried.”
Finally, he also spoke about the protest held this weekend in Madrid to denounce the public health situation in that community. According to Garrido, “The Euskadi and Ayuso models are quite similar”. “Here we are also in a privatization process that is deteriorating the public system. Originally it is the same philosophy,” he concluded.
