The constant heat wave has large parts of Europe under control, including Spain, Portugal and Italy. It will also be really hot in Austria in the coming week. Geosphere Austria predicts on Thursday to 38 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday it was particularly hot at 46 degrees in the southern Spanish city of El Granado on the border with Portugal. The State Weather Service Aemet reported that a new heat record for a June day had been set up. This was previously located at 45.2 degrees in Sevilla (1965). It was also extremely hot in the neighboring Portugal, especially in the Algarve holiday area in the south of the country.
In the south of Europe, even the night temperatures did not fall below 30 degrees Celsius. The seawater is also exceptionally warm: meteorologists reported 27 degrees on the Ligurian coast in Italy and in the Central Tyrrhenian Sea (between the islands of Sardinia, Corsica and Sicily).

The questions about air conditioning and ice have already increased in Italy. In Spain and Portugal, people are currently out of the house in the morning or in the evening, wear light clothing and avoid sporting activities during the warm times of the day.
However, the floors and vegetation dry out strongly due to the high temperatures and intensive sunlight. The risk of forest fires is currently being increased, not only in South Europe, but also in some German federal states.
According to predictions, heat must be formed in the coming week. A high pressure area should even reach the cooler countries of Norway and Sweden.
Sweating also starts in Austria
Up to 34 degrees Celsius will be expected in Austria on Monday. Rain showers and thunderstorms can be expected from lunch. According to Geosphere Austria, the sun usually prevails on Tuesday. The early temperatures are between twelve and 20 degrees, the daily maximum temperatures between 27 and 34 degrees.
On Wednesday it can rain and thunderstorms in the west over the mountains. In the east and southeast, however, it remains sunny and hot until the evening. Up to 36 degrees are already possible on this day. The hottest day with a maximum of 38 degrees is then announced for Thursday. Thunderstorm cells can mainly be created in Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Salzburg. The meteorologists are waiting for the heat wave, especially in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. Cooling is not to be expected so quickly.
