The consequences of the storms on Sunday also use the emergency services nationwide at the start of the week. Lightning strikes must be the reason for a power outages in the Viennese lines and a burning tree in Tyrol, which has been working for hours. In Lower Austria, the fire brigade almost no longer came to rest …
The country was again struck by storms. On Sunday evening and at night it crashed well again – and our emergency services felt that too. Thunderstorms caused 170 fire brigademissions in Lower Austria, among other things. According to Klaus Stebal, the majority, around 145, was eliminated from the state assignment to remove storm damage.
Storm damage and small floods
The districts of Baden, Mistelbach, Gänserndorf, Korleuburg and Mödling were mainly affected. The helpers have also been used several times in the Hollabrunn district and in the regions of St. Pölten and Wiener Neustadt. In addition to storm damage, small floods were also registered in the state, Stebal reported. The result was pumping work.
In Baden, even the Spa park had to be closed after trees were nodded. According to the Fire Brigade command district, some passers -by were unreasonable and removed barriers. A gastro tent was thrown away on Sunday evening in the field of the summer arena in the Baden Center and there was no injuries.
Greeting thunderstorms on the winter stir
In Styria, a violent hail shower caused a real “winter landscape”. A snow plow even had to move on the Pogusch to release the streets again (see photo below).
Power error in the Viennese lines
The thunderstorm also felt the federal capital on Monday morning. There was a power failure. The U6 was mainly affected. The trains were set up between Alterlaa and Westbahnhof – passengers had to switch to alternative routes. The Badner Bahn caught it too. Happiness in accident: Meidling train station was spared.
Fixed error fast
The cause of the failure could have been a lightning strike in a transformer station. According to the Viennese networks, the offer was restored at 6.30 am – unusually fast. Usually an average malfunction in Vienna takes 90 minutes.
But yesterday’s storm in Tyrol does not let the emergency services rest. A burning tree has been employed by the Brandbrigade and director in Fieberbrunn in the Tyrolean district of Kitzbühel since Sunday evening: because of the remote location, in the area of an Alm, the police helicopter had to be asked. This disputes the fire from the air (see article above). The cause of the fire could have been a lightning strike.
Serious weather risks considerably less
On Monday, according to experts from the Austrian Storm Center (UWZ), it initially rains often, in the south and southeast also strong and thoroughly. During the day there are more showers, thunderstorms are local. The corresponding storm risk is considerably lower compared to Sunday, but storm cars are possible near the thunderstorms.
It is comparable on Tuesday: it often starts wet again with a shower -like, sometimes strong and spoiled rain. This drops during the day, but the sun only shows occasionally and especially on the Alpine North Side of the shower or thunderstorms.
