A civil servant (20) received an electricity bill of 1246 euros just two months after moving to an apartment in Lower Austria – five times the recently concluded contract! After several calls and visits to the service center, it turned out to be a mistake.
An average single-person household consumes up to 2,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. However, an official would have consumed 762 kWh in just 35 days. At least that’s what it says on an EVN invoice sent to St. Pöltner’s 20-year-old apartment, where he had only moved in early November 2022.
From 231 to 1246 euros
The required partial amount was correspondingly high: 1246 euros! The contract was concluded during the move at 231 euros per quarter. “We contacted them immediately. It could only have been a mistake,” says Christian B., the boy’s father. And he was also right with the employee.
Corrected amount of electricity, still high amount
In the new calculation, consumption has been corrected to 60.3 kWh. However, the partial amount remained extremely high at 1059 euros. But not only that: although it was written that EVN would only debit the amount from the account at the beginning of February, the money was already debited in mid-January. “This is a low-income official who is affected,” says B., who continued to appeal to the energy company.
“will be corrected”
In the end, perseverance paid off. “A friendly lady has once again assured us that everything will be corrected,” says B. EVN also confirms to “Krone”: “The partial amount has been adjusted. And the charge will be returned.”
