The Vienna Health Authority recently sent a warning to hospitals, rescue organizations and medical order. The Mon 15 reports of an increase in cases of measles and hepatitis in the city report. These are the reasons and how you can protect yourself.

Measles, the highly contagious infectious disease, which is very recognizable by the skin littered with red pimples and fever. The treacherous virus (transferred by the smallest drops) often affects children, but also adults and can – untreated – have very serious consequences: intellectual disability, paralysis and fatal inflammation of the brain.

The suspicion of measles is already subject to reporting. This year there are already 59 measles stores and 110 suspected cases, according to the city of Vienna. Many cases were reported in March, April and June.

According to an insider from the town hall, the main reasons are vaccination -damps and migrants who also refuse vaccinations or do not even know that there is one. Because vaccination is the best protection against the virus. The vaccination is usually administered as a combination of mumps, measles, rubella and is free. Adults can also be punctured.

124 cases of hepatitis, not all –
Let’s go to Hepatitis A, which also increasingly appears in Vienna. 124 cases have been reported in Vienna since January. A striking part of the homeless accommodation. The Mon 15 therefore divides information material into different languages ​​into the accommodations.

Hepatitis A is a liver disease caused by a virus that is transferred to risk areas by contaminated drinking water, polluted food or as a lubrication infection via surfaces. Many cases of hepatitis are also registered in the neighboring countries of Austria.

Fever and indigestion can occur at the start of the disease. After that, the clinical image usually goes hand in hand with a phase with liver inflammation and yellow color of the skin. Hepatitis A usually completely heals, but can also be fatal if the liver is damaged in advance.

Best protection against difficult courses here too: Hepatitis A vaccination. But this is not free. Costs: about 50 to 65 euros per injection.
