From 2026, people who work outside have to be better protected against heat. In the future, employers will be obliged to implement a heat protection plan as soon as the Austria geosphere warns a heat of level two or higher (30 to 34 degrees).
In the foreground, avoiding the danger is: for example, by moving working hours or greatly reducing work. If this is only possible to a limited extent, technical and organizational measures – such as the shadows of the workplace or the displacement of the activity in the shade – must be taken.
If this is also only possible to a limited extent, personal measures such as light clothing, head protection or sunscreen are required.
- The heat protection regulation is to come into force on January 1, 2026. It contains a mandatory equipment of Sickbines and self -advancing work equipment with cooling or air conditioning – temperatures of a maximum of 50 degrees can have the upper hand in the event of an illness.
- There must be transitional periods for the adjustment. The heat protection plan must be visible to all employees at workplaces, construction sites and on external jobs.
