A small plane carrying three people made an emergency landing near Munich airport on Friday afternoon. All three occupants were injured, police said. The single-engine machine had suddenly reported engine problems on the road from Günzburg in Swabia to Salzburg, a spokesman for German air traffic control said on request.
The small plane was due to land on the northern runway of Munich airport due to the defect, but did not make it. The plane instead landed in a field north of the airport, the spokesman said. According to a police report, this was east of the Stoibermühle recreation area in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Marzling in the Freising district.
According to the initial findings of the police, the 27-year-old pilot and two women aged 32 and 34 were on board the small plane Robin DR 401. They started around noon in Günzburg and wanted to go to Salzburg.
Engine suddenly cut out
Police said the engine suddenly stalled en route. During the emergency landing, the pilot and a passenger were slightly injured, the second woman seriously. One person was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter. Significant material damage of an undisclosed amount was inflicted on the aircraft.
According to air traffic control and the police, an expert from the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) has come to the landing site. The public prosecutor’s office in Landshut has had an expert opinion carried out to clarify the cause of the accident.
According to the police, witnesses saw the emergency landing. They immediately reported the incident via the emergency call. The recreation area in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Marzling is located just a few kilometers north of the airport and close to the town of Freising.
