The main fire station in Villach went on an animal mission on Friday evening. A Bernese Mountain Dog had fallen into the Drau and was in danger of being taken away.
The owner was on Friday evening with her Bernese Mountain Dog “Seppl” on the road in Villach when her four-legged friend suddenly fell into the Drau near the bicycle path. “We got the emergency call at around 5.30pm. We immediately left with several vehicles and a fire truck,” says HFW Villach.
„seppl“ could just hold on
According to the emergency services, the frightened dog was just able to hold on to the approximately three meters steep slope. “Immediately, two ladder sections were lowered to the dog. A firefighter quickly climbed up to the animal to conduct an initial rescue,” said chief fire inspector Martin Regenfelder.
A fire diver in a neoprene suit climbed into the water to retrieve the four-legged friend from the Drau. “At the same time, a rescue boat of the fire brigade was launched. The animal, which weighed about 65 kilograms, could then be rescued in the boat with a concerted effort,” according to the emergency services.
“Seppl” was soaked a short time later but handed over to its lucky owner unharmed.
