Children in bunkers too – concern about the highly explosive situation at the Asot . chemical plant

Date:

Hundreds of people are currently hiding in air raid shelters under the Azot factory in the eastern Ukrainian city of Sieverodonetsk. Among them are some children. The situation is dramatic: About 200 factory workers remain at the factory to secure and professionally protect the remnants of the highly explosive chemicals in the best possible way, the company said. A large part of the stored nitrogen had already been removed from the crisis area.

The chemical plant was the target of Russian missile attacks – numerous civilians are currently still trapped in the plant’s air raid shelters. “The locals were asked to leave the city, but they refused. There are also children there, but not many,” Serhiy Haidai, head of Luhansk’s regional military administration, told CNN.

Haidai had said Tuesday a tank of nitric acid at the Azot plant was hit by Russian missiles – sending a huge orange plume of smoke rising. “Fortunately there was no danger to humans. The cloud rose and immediately cleared – so there was no danger of death,” Hadai said.

CEO: ‘This war is completely pointless’

GroupDF, Ukrainian CEO Dimitry Firtash describes the dramatic situation on the ground: “Until the day before yesterday, we were still able to transport food, water and other important goods for the citizens in Azot. Since yesterday, no transports have reached the factory.” The investor warned that events surrounding the Mariupol Steel Works captured from Moscow could be repeated and urged Russia to stop the attacks. “This war is completely pointless and in no way justifiable, it will only bring suffering and misery on all sides. This humanitarian tragedy is unbearable,” Firtash said.
