Fair DJ played party song “Layla” despite the ban

Date:

The song “Layla” is at number 1 on the charts in Germany and Austria – and yet some organizers have banned the song, which many consider too sexist. Even in the tent of the Schützen on the Rheinkirmes in Düsseldorf, the number of DJ Robin and Schürze was actually taboo. But the DJ ignored the ban – much to the delight of many cheering trade fair visitors.

The ban on the controversial Ballermann hit caused a lot of excitement – the song is also not allowed to be played at local party venues such as the Lugeck-Alm in Vienna. The radio station Ö3 does not have “Layla” in its regular music program. The hit is only played in the card show.

Just before 10 pm DJ defied the ban
But DJ Marc Pesch, who played in the Rheinkirmes in Düsseldorf on Friday evening, could not advise himself with the ban imposed by the organizer. Just before 10 p.m., “Layla” blared from the speakers — and the crowd roared along with the lyrics, suspected of being sexist. Bild reporter Lisa Unverfert posted a video of the cheering party crowd on Twitter.

DJ: “The version with heavily reduced vocals was the best solution”
According to the newspaper “Bild”, the DJ had already indicated in advance that he could not understand the discussion around the ban on the song: “It’s mood music. I don’t understand why I can’t play the song.” He announced that he might be playing an instrumental version – but on Friday the song was played with vocals. “People wanted to hear the song, it just belongs. And a version with greatly reduced vocals was the best solution. It was well celebrated,” explains Marc Pesch to the newspaper.

The incident should not have had any direct consequences for the DJ. He was allowed to continue playing until he was replaced by a live act at 11:30 pm. Ballermann star Tobee is known for hits like “Saufi saufi” and “Du ich trink dich schön”.

Youth-free version planned
Ikke Hipgold, who produced Ballermann’s song, announced he wanted to respond to the debate — he planned to make a youth-free version of the song, he told n-tv.de. “We realize there must be another version of the song. We know that young children hear “Layla” too. That’s why there should be a children’s version,” says shiippgold. So instead of “Puff” just “Wuff” should be sung, “Puffmama” quickly becomes “Dog Mama”.
