Hit and Run – Alko-Lenker steals dad’s car and almost crashes

Date:

Early on Saturday morning, a spectacular accident occurred in the neighboring Swiss Lake Constance municipality of St. Margrethen (Canton of St. Gallen). A 26-year-old German ran off the road on the road to Walzenhausen and threatened to fall on a construction site. As it turned out, not the only problem of the young man …

The 26-year-old drove his father’s car from St. Margrethen to Walzenhausen around 5 a.m. After a left turn, the Opel crossed the oncoming lane and then left the road. There the station wagon continued a few meters and collided with a construction site barrier and two beacons before coming to a stop on the sloping meadow edge.

The driver was able to get out of the car unharmed, which he immediately used on foot to flee the accident. During the search, the 26-year-old was found several hours later. When a breath alcohol measurement was then performed, the officials found a value of 2.4 per mille. By far not the only problem for the 26-year-old. Further investigation revealed that he had previously stolen the car from his father. In addition, he did not have a driver’s license.

The damage to the car and the street facilities amounted to more than 20,000 euros. In addition to the towing service, the responsible fire brigade also had to be called in to recover the car. In addition to the St. Gallen cantonal police, a patrol from the Swiss Federal Bureau of Customs and Border Protection was also present.
