Homeowner angry – “vehicle landed in my yard again”

Date:

It was a sensational accident that happened late Friday night in Brixlegg, Tyrol: a company car crashed into a garden. The driver had 1.6 per thousand in the blood. The homeowner is angry because it is not the first time that a vehicle has “parked” in the middle of his property.

“We have lived in the house since 1975 and have probably been the victim of an accident 20 to 30 times,” says Walter Wöll. The third car has collided with his property since he had put up a fence about eight years ago. “The garden gate is broken again and the hedge, which my wife had trimmed late in the afternoon, is damaged,” says the Unterlander angrily. And you should be glad no one got hurt.

“40s are often ignored and rarely checked”
Shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, a 51-year-old construction worker on his way from Brixlegg to Reith im Alpbachtal lost control of his company car, went over the right side of the road and hit a curb. As the driver apparently was not wearing his seat belt, he hit his head against the windshield and briefly lost consciousness. The van rolled back about 80 meters, straight into the Wöll family’s front yard.

“We were just in the kitchen and heard the honking for the first time. I first thought of a wedding party that was still underway late at night. But then the loud noise in our garden”, recalls the Brixlegger, who mainly complains that many do not adhere to the prescribed 1940s that are painted on the street. And in his opinion, the driver carries out too few speed checks on the road to the Alpbachtal. “I haven’t had any sympathy for such accidents for a long time,” says Wöll. Especially because the 51-year-old Pole also drove with more than 1.6 per mille.

Driver had to go to hospital with head injury
The man was taken to hospital in Kufstein with head injuries and the vehicle had to be lifted from the front yard by the ÖAMTC with a crane. “There was significant damage to the car and the wooden fence,” police said.
