An 18-year-old from Salzburg had to appear before a jury in St. Pölten on Monday for the attempted murder of his father. The student was accused of wounding his father with a piece of wood and then stabbing him several times with the car antenna. Recently, he is said to have tried to strangle him. The victim was seriously injured. The 18-year-old has not yet confessed.
After his parents separated, the student from Salzburg lived with his mother in the Hallein district. The 18-year-old had hardly any contact with his father, who lived on a farm in the district of Melk (Lower Austria). The relationship between the two was difficult.
“He has made plans to start a cannabis plantation and breed puppies,” the prosecutor said of the defendant’s plan. According to the diary entries, he had the clear intention of killing his father in order to take over his farm. The suspect denied the charges.
When he visited his father on March 6, he said he wanted to tell him about his school situation and his drug use. The next day he asked his father for a piece of wood three feet long to make a handle from a knife. The father then went shopping and the son had meanwhile smoked a joint.
“Dad, me have to kill you”
When the 51-year-old returned from shopping, he was suddenly struck on the head with the piece of wood and had to realize that the attacker was his son. The father remembered his son’s words at the time: “Daddy, I have to do this now, I have to kill you.” During a fight, the young man allegedly stabbed the father in the stomach with a vehicle antenna and wanted to strangle him with a cloth belt. The Lower Austrian managed to free himself and escape. The suspect then tried to take his own life.
The 18-year-old denied all this in court. He showed him a sketch of the handle of the knife while holding the piece of wood in his hand. The father asked him about his red eyes, after which he admitted to taking drugs. This led to an argument. His father was disappointed, “he insulted me as a problem child”. Then “everything went so fast”, his father came to him and hit him “out of panic” with the wooden slat. During a scuffle, he punched the 51-year-old in the face with his fist. The 18-year-old denied an aerial attack and an attempt to strangle his father.
Father and son were both injured during the crime. The 51-year-old was hospitalized with a bruise to his skull, cuts and a black eye. According to the expert Werner Brosch, the father had an acute stress reaction, for which he was also treated as a hospital patient. Victim representative Elisabeth Januschkowetz suspected greed as the Salzburger’s motive, as his father was described as very frugal.
difficult relationship
Days before the crime, the suspect described his relationship with his father in his diary: “I don’t know why I’m thinking about killing my biological ancestor”. The suspect apologized for the diary entries by saying that he mainly smoked when he made such statements.
According to expert Brosch, the 18-year-old was of sound mind at the time of the crime, but his ability to exercise discretion and discretion was severely limited. According to the expert, the conditions for admission to an institution for mentally ill offenders are not met. The 18-year-old already has a criminal record.
