A 19-year-old started a search of several hours on the Rax in Lower Austria on Tuesday night. According to Reichenau’s mountain rescue service, the young woman from Vienna did not appear at a meeting point agreed with two other recreational athletes. She eventually lost her orientation going down the Holzknechtsteig when it got dark.
While climbing the Holzknechtsteig in the late afternoon, the woman met the two men who, since it was already late, offered to take her to Vienna by car after her own tour. However, the recreational athlete did not appear at the agreed meeting point, the so-called Bachinger Bründl. At about 10 p.m., the two men alerted the mountain rescue service.
The police helicopter “Libelle” was also involved in the search that followed. Three mountain rescue teams were on foot and called the missing person shortly after 0:30 a.m. The mission ended lightly, the helpers found the 19-year-old unharmed.
Numerous missions included
In the Rax-Schneeberg area, a total of ten calls have been made to the Reichenau Mountain Rescue Service in the past 12 days. “In half of the cases, exhausted or overwhelmed people had to be picked up from hiking trails and forest roads,” it was stressed.
