He has shown willingness to continue as prime minister if the parties support him. He asks the Five Star Movement to rebuild the coalition pact “with courage, altruism and credibility”, claiming that this is what Italian citizenship requires.
the Italian Prime Minister, mario draghi, today stated that he is willing to remain as prime minister of Italy if the parties of his broad coalition support him. He called on Parliament today to: “rebuild” their coalition of national unityafter the crisis caused by his partner 5 star movement (M5S), who forced him to resign, is now being reconsidered.
“The only way, if we want to move forward together, is to rebuild this pact from scratch, with courage, altruism and credibility,” claiming that this is what Italian citizenship requires. “Are the parties and your parliamentarians ready to rebuild this pact?” he asked during today’s session.
Draghi had resigned last week after the populist 5-star movement (M5S) refused to support the coalition in a parliamentary confidence vote, but President Sergio Mattarella rejected the resignation.
