In 2020, the municipality of Grünbach near Freistadt in Upper Austria inherited a farm and a savings account worth 190,000 euros for the renovation of the building. But now the local chief wants to demolish the house and sell the property.
The planned demolition of the 320-year-old Neuhauser-Erbhof is morally very debatable for the Grünbacher SP parliamentary leader Stefan Klambauer. The municipality inherited the building and about 6,000 square meters of building land two years ago from the former postman Nikolaus Neuhauser. In addition, a savings account with 190,000 euros. In his will, he stated that the community had to renovate the house.
Plans for 56 apartments on the Erbhof site
Now the city council, which includes ten VP politicians, five red and four blue representatives, voted 10:9 for demolition. Black local boss Stefan Weißenböck strongly supports: “The renovation of the house, which has been uninhabited since 2014 and is in danger of collapsing, would have cost between 500,000 and a million euros. Because the country doesn’t want to support us, we have to tear it down.” He estimates the costs at 38,000 euros. Then he wants to sell it. “A housing association is interested, they are planning 56 apartments.”
Klambauer is annoyed that action is taken without a plan or concept. “It is not my inheritance, nor the inheritance of the mayor or the municipal councils, but of all citizens of the municipality of Grünbach. That is why they also have to decide what to do with the house.” Weißenböck rejects it: “We only had elections last year, so I don’t have to vote again.” He can imagine a memorial to Neuhauser with objects from the Erbhof to build with a small hut.
