Kiev offensives – 1000 Russian soldiers surrounded in Kherson

Date:

Kiev reports reconquests in the Kherson region, which is almost largely under Moscow’s control. A Russian garrison of 1,000 soldiers was surrounded. According to British intelligence, Russia will also be under pressure further south. “The risk is increasing for the supply lines of the Russian armed forces west of the river (Ingulets, a tributary of the Dnipro),” the defense ministry said in an intelligence report.

The Ukrainian army has suffered significantly fewer casualties than a few weeks ago, Kiev said. A success can be reported from the Kherson region. According to Oleksiy Arestovych, adviser to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russian troops entered a “tactical encirclement” near the settlement of Vysokopillya.

Major Antonivsky Bridge under fire
According to the British secret service, Ukraine is also increasing its offensive further south. Russia tries to stop the advance along the Ingulets with artillery fire. Ukraine had succeeded in carrying out further attacks on the Antonivsky Bridge over the Dnipro. The bridge is central to the supply of Russian troops west of the river. There has been heavy fighting in the region for the past 48 hours.

According to local governor Andriy Raikovych, 13 Russian missiles hit a military airport and railway lines in the Kirohvrad region of central Ukraine. Rescue services are on site, he said via short message service Telegram. In a small district of the regional capital Kropyvnytskyj, the power supply had been cut.

Zelenskyy thanks US for “powerful weapons”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the United States for the announced new arms shipments. “Extremely important, powerful weapons will save the lives of our soldiers and accelerate the liberation of our country from the Russian aggressor,” he tweeted on Saturday. “I appreciate the strategic partnership between our nations. Together to victory!” The United States on Friday announced more arms sales to Ukraine worth about $270 million.

Arms deliveries from Germany have been delayed
Meanwhile, arms deliveries promised by the German federal government are apparently being significantly delayed, according to a report by “Welt am Sonntag”.

More solidarity in the EU through war?
According to a current market survey commissioned by the Austrian Association for European Policy, 42 percent of Austrians think the war in Ukraine will lead to a greater sense of togetherness in the EU. 23 percent of the 500 respondents would welcome Ukraine’s accession to the EU, but 51 percent reject such a move, the ÖGfE announced on Saturday.
