The French National Assembly decided on Saturday to abolish license fees. In the future, public broadcasting will be financed, among other things, from part of the VAT. The lower house of parliament, the Senate, still has to approve the bill. 170 MPs voted in favor of the project, 57 voted against.
The radio license in France is currently 138 euros per year. It is payable for all households that own a television. President Emmanuel Macron had announced the abolition of the fee during the election campaign.
