A forest fire broke out on the Brunnkogel in the Höllen Mountains near Ebensee in Upper Austria on Saturday afternoon. A total of ten fire brigades were engaged in the extinguishing work and two police helicopters were also deployed to help.
Around 3 p.m. the fire broke out in the steep, impassable terrain on the Brunnkogel near Ebensee. It took more than 100 firefighters and a helicopter crew for hours to fight the blaze. The wind in particular causes problems because it continues to fan the fire.
Fire extinguishing water flown to the site of the fire
Thanks to a forest road, the helpers can get to about 600 meters from the seat of the fire. Water is transported up the mountain from the valley by tank fire trucks. And two police helicopters are also being used to fly extinguishing water to the fire area and forest fire experts from the St. Agatha fire brigade are also on site.
In the evening a heavy rain shower fell over the site, which should alleviate the situation.
