The mass murder of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Bucha caused horror and bewilderment – as did the Kremlin propaganda that followed. Moscow claimed Ukraine “staged” the scene with hundreds of corpses: the dead were only released after Russian troops had withdrawn. But satellite images and videos show that the dead have been lying there for weeks – even as the city was under siege by the Russians.
After the shocking photos were published, the image of Moscow caused a stir: the Russian government spoke of a “provocation by Ukrainian radicals”. The images have been manipulated. The Russian embassy spoke of a “staging of the Kiev regime for Western media”, but these allegations have now been exposed as lies.
Satellite image company Maxar Technologies has released high-resolution images, including “recent videos and photos on social media showing bodies that have been lying on the street for weeks.”, confirm. The photos would prove that many civilians have already been killed by Russian troops during the occupation of Bucha, reports the New York Times.
The well-known newspaper reviewed a video of a Ukrainian city councilor dated April 2 – many dead victims can be seen on the road while driving on Yablonska Street. This clip has been compared to satellite images from March 11. The elf corpses can also be seen on it. Further aerial photos show that the bodies were not moved during that time either.
It is not yet clear how the people died. Impact craters seen next to the dead bodies, however, provide clues. Some victims had their hands tied. previously had Reuters reporter reports that he shot a man in the head with his hands tied behind his back.
