A holiday family had to experience anxious minutes on the Tauernautobahn near the Rennweg in Carinthia on Monday afternoon. The family was traveling with a car and caravan – while driving the car started to burn.
A Dutch holiday family was on the road on the Tauernautobahn A 10 towards Salzburg around 4 pm when the car started to burn down near Eisentratten. The family had to rescue themselves from the light-rolling vehicle. The children (13 and 17) in the back seat suffered minor injuries when they escaped from the car. The father (52) was able to disconnect the caravan from the burning car with the help of a driver, he was also injured in the process. The father and his daughters had to be taken to the hospital in Spittal an der Drau. The woman (54) was unharmed.
Neighborhood workers started deleting
Employees of the municipality of Spittal an der Drau, who happened to be driving a sewer suction truck nearby, came to the family’s aid and started extinguishing the fire. The alarmed fire brigade then carried out further extinguishing activities. . “The first assumption was a caravan fire with gas bottles,” reports fire chief Josef Heiss. The fire brigade Rennweg and Gmünd carried out the after-extinguishing work. The car burned out completely.
