The Syrian (52) who – as reported – on May 23 in Linz with a box cutter stabbed his wife (41) several times in the neck and almost cut through it – has now been officially charged.
It was only by luck that the sharp blade missed the carotid artery. Coincidentally, a doctor and a paramedic were in the backwater that had formed on the Danube landing at the construction site of the tunnel behind the crime scene.
Offender has memory gaps
The wife and mother of two have also now been questioned and confirmed that the man had assaulted her. “The suspect admits the act in principle, but speaks of memory gaps,” said public prosecutor Ulrike Breiteneder. And the Syrian also tries to blame the victim – the woman was aggressive. The motive would have been that the 41-year-old wrote to an acquaintance via mobile phone, but did not want to show this to her husband.
Charge of attempted murder
The charges are attempted murder, coercion and negligent bodily harm. Because the Syrian is said to have threatened Abbot Reinhold Dessl of Wilhering Abbey, who came to his aid, with a knife, causing him to stumble and get a bruise.
