A swimmer in Honolulu had to experience a huge shock: the woman lay in the water just meters from the beach on Sunday when she was brutally attacked by a monk seal. She managed to save herself wounded ashore.
The 60-year-old California teacher was swimming close to shore when she was suddenly attacked by the large seal. The seal lady named Rocky is known to the Hawaii Environmental Protection Agency, she gave birth to offspring two weeks ago.
She was walking with her baby when she attacked the woman. The teacher was pulled underwater several times during the attack. However, with the help of other beach visitors, she made it to shore and escaped with bites and scrapes on her face and back.
Warning signs on the beach
Signs at Waikiki Beach warn against approaching the sea creatures. However, according to the Hawaii Environmental Protection Agency, the woman is not at fault.
