Holly Willoughby and Lee Mac said their new reality show for celebs is very different from what they’ve seen before, in that it’s not an attempt to “starve people and deliberately queue.”
Willoughby, 41, and Maisie, 53, are the hosts of BBC One Frieze’s entertainment reality show The Fear With Wim Hof, inspired by the teachings of Dutch extreme athlete Wim Hof. Speaking before the show airs, Mac explained that the show has different goals than programs that challenge other celebrities on television.
He said, “I’m not a huge fan of that kind of TV. But what I love about this is that I’m not trying to be negative.
“What we’re not trying to do is starve people to death and deliberately line up and try to bring out the negativity that you see in a lot of these kinds of shows. It was positive there — and it sounded positive there too. [the screen]. It was a feeling that there weren’t many negatives. “

Mac added, “Everyone here has met a lot of show business, and this relationship was probably a fifth of the horror, but they were really cool.”
Hoff, 62, is also known as the Iceman. He has gained high profile fans like Liam Hemsworth through his wellness course called Wim Hof Method and has faced severe challenges himself.
Speaking about how the show got tougher in six episodes, Huff said, “Yeah, it’s tougher, but people have more control. That’s what you see, the case isn’t that hard.”

“It’s about controlling your fears, going into deeper areas of the brain. And again, you take that deep control, all of a sudden, and then I saw amazing things. It’s amazing how these people were able to do all this.”
Mac also spoke about what it was like to work with Hoff, who advocates for the positive effects of cold temperatures. He described Hoff as “the most real person I’ve ever seen”.
Mac said, “Wim was awesome. I mean he’s downright crazy. It’s a real iron, not for effect. Because everyone has a certain person on the screen, but when the camera stops, it goes on.”
“He’ll show the crack to you on camera and he’ll also show you behind the camera again. I think someone would look good on TV if that’s who I am and the most real person I’ve ever seen on TV.”
Huff said he hoped viewers would realize after watching the show that he was “crazy”.
Celebrities participating in the show include singer Professor Greene, Strictly Come Dancing professional Diana Baswell, and TV presenter Gabe Logan. Alfie Poe, Owen Wayne Evans, Patrice Evra, Chelsea Grimes and Tamsin Outthwaite complete the list of celebrities involved.
Freeze The Fear With Wim Hof airs on BBC One on April 11 at 9pm.
