For months, the municipality of Tennengau in Adnet has been bubbling over a major project by sun protection manufacturer Schlotterer. As residents erect their barricades, the Adnet company threatens to lay off employees.
The Schlotterer company wants to expand to more than four hectares – a large-scale project that has been stirring people’s minds for months. The company is announcing 750 new jobs by 2035. But hundreds of Adnet citizens oppose the new project, collecting signatures. Should Schlotterer’s plan fail as a result, the company would “have to look for another solution,” Schlotterer said through PR firm ikp.
The sun protection manufacturer is threatening to lay off about 220 employees because they cannot be “exchanged to a more distant production location”, according to the PR company. Peter Gubisch himself, director of the company Adneter, did not respond to the request of “Krone”.
Adnet would benefit from new jobs
There are votes for and against. Internally, there are many for the expansion, as well as from partner companies and suppliers throughout Tennengau. The main argument is that the new factory would create jobs. The residents have united to form the “Save the Adnetfelder” initiative. Recently, opponents of the project launched a signature campaign with the aim of getting a citizen survey about the expansion.
As reported, the members handed them over to the municipality on Friday. By Friday, the Adneters had gathered 430 of the required 300 votes. “The fact that so many participated shows that the Adneters don’t want that,” says Adneter Hans Scheicher.
Initiative wants to protect nature in Adnet
For him and the other opponents, the conservation of nature is paramount. “Our rural community must not be destroyed,” said Georg Scheicher, spokesperson for the initiative. The green area on which Schlotterer wants to build is not far from the primary school. “But there are strictly protected trees and plants, such as yew trees or orchids,” says Hans Scheicher Senior.
Mayor Wolfgang Auer (ÖVP), who is in favor of Schlotterer’s extension, must now have the signatures checked immediately. If 300 are valid, a citizen survey should be organized in the municipality.
