In the US, a lottery prize of $1.34 billion (equivalent to $1.31 billion) awaits one winner. The holder of the winning ticket, which cost two US dollars to buy, got all six numbers right in Friday’s draw.
The lottery organizers said on Saturday that the winning ticket for the mega jackpot has been sold in the state of Illinois. No one had cracked the top prize for 29 draws. It was said that it was not yet known who had won.
2nd biggest jackpot of Mega Millions
The $1.34 billion is the second largest jackpot in the 20-year history of the Mega Millions lottery. It is only surpassed by a profit of about 1.5 billion dollars (1.47 billion euros) in 2018.
The winner can choose between a lump sum or a payout over 30 years. Most winners opt for the lump sum, which, according to the lottery operators, is associated with a high tax burden.
