Next “alarm signal” – vote: Lufthansa pilots support strike

Date:

Not good prospects for air travelers: At the German AUA parent company Lufthansa, a pilots’ strike has come one step closer. As part of a vote, the voting members of the Cockpit Association (VC) voted by a very clear majority in favor of a labor dispute. The union announced this on Sunday after the counting of the votes.

This allows a strike of about 5,000 pilots at Lufthansa’s core brand with immediate effect, but this was not initially requested by the Board of Directors. Even before the count, VC tariff expert Marcel Gröls had explained that it was initially a “warning signal” to the Lufthansa board. “Good offers” are now expected from management.

At Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, 97.6 percent of participants voted in favor of a strike. At the cargo subsidiary Cargo, the approval was even higher at 99.3 percent. “Unfortunately, nothing has happened in the past six collective bargaining rounds,” said VC spokesman Matthias Baier in advance. The union is demanding a 5.5 percent wage increase by 2022, automatic inflation compensation and an adjustment of the wage structure.

Ground staff went on strike on Wednesday
It was only on Wednesday that the German trade union Verdi nearly paralyzed the flight operations of the largest German airline with a warning strike by ground staff. More than 1,000 flights were canceled and about 134,000 passengers had to change their flight plans.
