Apparently a gas pipe was drilled when setting up a tent in Arzl in the Tyrolean Pitztal. The leak was not noticed until Monday afternoon the anchor rods were removed.
Members of the national youth/young farmers’ association Arzl im Pitztal were dismantling the tent on the so-called Kapfparkplatz on Monday afternoon. After all tarpaulins and pillars had been removed, work began at around 4:15 pm to pull the anchor rods out of the ground. “The approximately one meter long ground anchors were pulled out of the asphalt with a small excavator,” said the police. But after an anchor foot was discovered next to the highway, it suddenly smelled of gas.
Large-scale cordoned off area
“The circumstance was immediately reported to the control center of Tyrol and the Tigas,” explains the director. The Kapf car park and the nearby Pitztaler Landesstraße were immediately closed off and the associated part of the gas pipeline was disconnected from the grid.
Delivery partially interrupted
According to a Tigas employee, the leak was caused by small-scale damage caused by a smashed ground anchor. The affected area is immediately dredged and the gas pipeline repaired. According to the researchers, there was no danger to surrounding objects. The gas supply was interrupted on Monday evening for parts of the municipality of Arzl.
