The public toilet facility in Klagenfurt cost almost half a million euros. This is what the capital’s “luxury toilet” looks like.
More than EUR 420,000 was invested in the renovation of the public toilet facility in the Reitschulgasse near the Europahaus. As reported, construction costs were discussed for months.
Incomprehension among citizens and politicians
Simple white sinks, plain tiles and stainless steel urinals were installed. Neither citizens nor some politicians understand why all this has cost nearly a million euros.
“Light domes, new technology, plumbing, partitions, ventilation, lighting, planting, statics and planning cost money,” says a press release from the municipality. In addition, the entire house had to be overhauled. The “luxury toilet” has been finished and ready for use since July.
Not always open
Unfortunately, the public toilet facility is often closed. Buses parked in front of it last weekend, holidaymakers stood in front of closed doors. In order to defecate, the municipal toilet facilities on Neuer Platz were literally stormed. There were even queues.
“The construction site was a mockery for many. In the future, the toilet should always be open. The project accounting is also closely monitored,” says alderman Sandra Wassermann.
