Climate activists of the last generation continued their protests on Wednesday at Praterstern (video above) and at the distribution circle in Vienna. This brought traffic to a halt again. During the protests, an ambulance on its way to a resuscitation center was not evacuated, police said. The climate stickers again receive a lot of criticism.
“In this regard, the activists have been reported in accordance with the Penal Code and the Road Traffic Act,” the police said. “The road was only clear for us after the police intervened,” the Viennese professional rescue service also confirms the information from the police.
Elderly gentleman had to be resuscitated
The rescue vehicle was therefore on its way to Lower Austria, where an elderly gentleman had to be resuscitated. Due to the blockade, the emergency vehicle arrived a few minutes late. “The patient died during the operation,” says spokeswoman Corina Had. Whether the man actually died due to the delay, however, cannot be determined.
‘No ambulance to be seen far and wide’
The last generation vehemently contradicts the statements of the police and the rescue service. There was no rescue vehicle to be seen at the distribution circle. “If the police or other people point us to an emergency vehicle, we will of course clear the roadway. Before any protest, we also contact the rescue coordination centers and inform them of upcoming protests,” said spokesman David Sonnenbaum. They would always form rescue lanes.
According to the police, all blockades were lifted around 8:30 a.m. and traffic could flow again, the Viennese police tweeted. The latest generation demands, among other things, a speed limit of 100 km/h on the highway and the halting of new oil and gas drilling.
