Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has sent six more people on a short space trip. It was the sixth manned launch of the largely automated New Shepard rocket system, as Bezos’ space company Blue Origin announced.
The passengers departed from the west of the US state of Texas on Thursday. During the flight, the capsule separated from the rocket, sometimes reaching an altitude of about 100 kilometers above the Earth in weightlessness, then landed again with the help of parachutes.
This time there were four men and two women on board – including engineer Sara Sabry, who became the first Egyptian man in space, and entrepreneur Mario Ferreira, the first Portuguese in space. Recently, the company launched six space tourists into space in June.
On the first flight in July 2021, Amazon founder Bezos himself was on board. The second, in October 2021, was attended by then 90-year-old Canadian actor William Shatner, who became world famous for his role as Captain Kirk on Star Trek. The third flight in December 2021 included the daughter of the first American in space, Laura Shepard Churchley.
