Mask exemptions – false statements: doctor in Bavaria must be in custody

Date:

After allegedly issuing hundreds of false mask certificates, a doctor from Upper Bavaria has been sentenced to two years in prison. She should not be aware of any guilt, district court director Christine Schäfer reported Friday. The trial involved a total of 309 cases.

The accused doctor is said to have issued the health certificates exempting him from the obligation to wear a mask without extensive examinations. That is why the doctor was searched beforehand – in vain, because she would later have given false statements.

Temporary professional ban imposed
That is why she was sentenced on Wednesday to two years in prison. Due to her lack of guilt, the sentence was not suspended, district court director Christine Schäfer announced on Friday. In addition, the court imposed a three-year professional ban on the woman and also a temporary professional ban, which should apply until the verdict becomes final. According to Schäfer, the prosecutor and the defense have already appealed the verdict.

During the corona pandemic, opponents of the measures had repeatedly tried to get exemptions from the mask requirement from doctors. This was justified on alleged medical grounds.
