A seven-month-old bear cub has died in a road accident in Vermiglio, Trentino, Italy. The animal, which weighed about 20 kilograms, probably died of severe head trauma. The body was found Thursday by a passerby.
Presumably the boy was traveling with his mother. The mother bear with her two cubs was spotted this Sunday in the Val di Sole valley, the province of Trento announced.
Reintroduced bears disturb some residents
Veterinary and genetic studies were performed. In Trentino, the predators were reintroduced and multiplied well. In the meantime, about 90 animals will probably live there, which is too much for some residents. A year ago, a bear attacked a police officer in a mountain village, sustaining multiple injuries. Such incidents have repeatedly sparked debates about shooting between authorities, residents and animal rights activists.
