The sharp rise in energy prices is also shocking the Viennese economy. Because the additional costs will probably be passed on to the customers.
Customers are amazed at the huge price increases at Wien Energie. As reported, Wien Energie is increasing the prices for electricity (+24 percent) and gas (+50 percent). The next shock to the already tense situation in households. And it gets even worse! Because not only private customers are affected by the price increases, but also companies – from industry to retail to the pub and hairdresser around the corner.
You have to pass on the extra costs to the customers. Even as they fight tooth and nail against the vicious circle of inflation.
price increases needed
“Fortunately, we have fixed energy contracts every year. But what will it be like next year?” asks Doris Felber of traditional bakery Felber. She has to implement price increases already in the autumn because wages and raw material prices are rising. Toy retailer Heidi Heinz of Spielwaren Heinz thinks the same way: “We help ourselves by lighting the shop windows for less time or by turning on the air conditioning less intensively. But these are just drops in the ocean.”
European solution required
“Now we need action to reduce energy consumption and focus on supporting the businesses and households most affected by inflation,” Chamber of Commerce President Walter Ruck hopes for European solutions such as the Corporate Energy Cost Subsidy Act, which after the European Commission has promised kicks.
The warm-up time is definitely coming. And due to the price increase, it is also becoming expensive for private households.
Private households now pay drastically more
For an average household this means an annual additional cost of almost 500 euros. Wien Energie’s customers will be notified of the new rates by post before the end of August.
The evaluation of the E-Control data shows that customers have no choice but to accept the increases. 32,488 Viennese changes in the first half of 2022. Much less than in the same period in 2021, when there were 54,395. No wonder, because the new registrations are even more expensive.
