A holidaymaker from the Czech Republic has been missing for more than a week in Salzburg’s Gasteinertal Valley. The mountain rescue and alpine police launched another major search, which was unsuccessful.
“Since this morning we have searched a huge area“, said the district manager of Pongau and the mountain rescuer Gerhard Kremser from Gastein. A total of 50 emergency services from the mountain rescue service Bad Hofgastein, Bad Gastein and Hüttschlag, ten teams of dog handlers, five Alpine police officers and the Libelle police helicopter were deployed.
“We were looking for the whole mountain trail, several gorges and high alpine terraine- from the Gamskarkogel to Hüttschlag – away. Of course always with the focus on a search along the road or outside the hiking trails, which are currently crowded. Unfortunately, there was no evidence of the missing person“, Kremser explained. The operation ended in the evening without success. If there are no new indications, there will be no more searches for the time being, according to the Alpine police.
The Czech came to Bad Hofgastein on July 29 as a holiday guest. The hostess last saw the 65-year-old on the morning of July 30. The next day he was gone – a missing persons report was drawn up. Multiple searches by mountain rescue, dog unit, water rescue and fire brigade followed.
