In the case of the four-month-old Viennese baby, who is in intensive care with a vibration trauma, the public prosecutor has now started an investigation into the attempted murder of the mother. The baby’s condition is still critical, but is not in imminent danger, the treating hospital said Thursday.
The incident happened on July 29. The mother was arrested by the police and admitted that she once shook the baby out of desperation because she cried non-stop.
Life-threatening internal injuries
The parents had warned the rescue, in the hospital the doctors found life-threatening internal injuries. Because there was a suspicion of a vibration trauma, the police were called. The Vienna State Police then started the investigation.
Anxiety in the intensive care unit
During an initial hearing, the 28-year-old mother admitted she was shaking. The preliminary assessment of an engaged forensic doctor – his written report is not yet available – has “confirmed the suspicion of a vibratory trauma,” said spokeswoman Romina Kaschnitz. The spokeswoman says whether the Public Prosecution Service will decide in the course of the day whether the suspects will be detained.
The baby is currently in intensive care.
