The hospital bed in the corridor at 40 degrees, plastic cover instead of sheets, “patient only has to scream when he needs something” – a concerned mother raises serious accusations.
A man from the Eisenstadt district is struggling with the effects of a tumor. Between the ages of 10 and 18, he underwent four major surgeries. In order to lead a fairly normal life, the 43-year-old has to undergo special hormone replacement therapy repeatedly.
man blind soon
“My son suffers from dehydration. He is blind in one eye and has very poor vision in the other,” explains the mother. The woman was shocked when she took her son’s clothes to the hospital in Eisenstadt.
The patient sat in the sweltering heat in a plastic-covered hospital bed in the hallway. “It was 40 degrees Celsius. My son was soaked with sweat. I immediately tried to cool him down with a washcloth,” says the mother. Things got worse when she asked a doctor to help her son and move him to an air-conditioned room.
Choice between aisle and floor
“When I asked where he would spend the night, I was told it could be in the hallway or on the floor. All he had to do was yell if he needed anything, they said,” the mother said, startled. The staff did not even comply with the request for a sheet.
“Terrible! It cannot be that a patient in a hospital in Austria is not treated as a person,” complains the mother. She wrote a letter of complaint to the governor’s office. Faced with the allegations, hospital management declined to comment on the cause. The family can contact the hospital directly, the organization said.
