For this they wanted to have the Gilea Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Kerpatenko, but he refused to join.

His refusal cost him his life. “Representatives of the attacker’s country shot the director of the Regional Philharmonic Orchestra in his own home, in the city of Kherson, for refusing to cooperate with them,” said the prosecutor’s office, which has opened proceedings for “war crimes.” and intentional manslaughter”. ” .

The Ukrainian secret services (SBU) have taken over the investigation. The investigation shows that the occupants tried to convince Kerpatenko through threats to cooperate. According to Terentii Shevchenko, a friend and colleague of the musician, the army shot him through the door of his own house when he refused to open it.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture has expressed its “sincere condolences to the relatives and colleagues of Yurii”, who had worked in the Kherson Regional Philharmonic Orchestra since 2000. He was also the director of the Nikola Kulish Musical and Drama Theater since 2004 and, likewise, of the Gilea Chamber Orchestra.
