Murder of Young Woman – “Cold Case” Solved after 52 Years with Genetic Analysis

Date:

In 1970, 28-year-old Nancy Bennallack was brutally murdered at her home in Sacramento, California. More than half a century later, researchers have identified the culprit — thanks to the latest genetic analysis.

The perpetrator brutally killed the young court reporter with more than 30 stab wounds. Investigators found traces of blood at the scene that did not come from the victim. Despite this, the crime could not be solved and the young woman’s case was filed.

It was not until 2004 that a DNA profile was made of the traces of blood found. In 2019, the researchers finally used genetic forensics – ancestor databases were searched for similar profiles. The breakthrough came three years later.

Murderer died in 1997, crime goes unpunished
“We have identified the suspect as Richard John Davis. Sadly, Davis died on Nov. 2, 1997 in Sacramento County. There will be no judicial justice of any kind,” said Mickey Links of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The crime goes unpunished – but thanks to the tireless work of the investigators, at least the victim’s family can now draw a line.
