Fire apparently lit – supermarket inferno in Vienna: suspect caught

Date:

After the incident in Vienna-Floridsdorf, in which a car collided with a supermarket on Saturday evening and set fire to both the car and the entire building, the police have arrested a 21-year-old in Deutsch-Wagram (Lower Austria). Police spokesman Daniel Fürst said he is suspected of arson. According to the findings of the detectives of the Rijksrecherche, the car in the supermarket was deliberately set on fire.

The small car crashed into the supermarket on Jedleseer Strasse for reasons initially unclear. No one was injured. The four occupants of the car, which had been reported stolen, fled.

Car set on fire on purpose
However, fire investigators found that the car did not appear to have caught fire as a result of the collision, but was set on fire by the occupants after the accident. In addition, the criminals investigated the registration holder and then the 21-year-old Austrian. The other three suspects were still at large on Sunday afternoon.

The motive is still unknown, but the interrogation of the arrested person is still ongoing. Local experts ruled out on Saturday that it was an accident. The glass front of the market was set back from the street, in front of which were used glass containers, among other things, there was a parking lot in front of it, which was separated from the sidewalk and the street by a railing.

It was initially unclear how the suspects committed the arson. An eyewitness stated that they had spilled an accelerator, such as gasoline. Videos of the action also circulated on social networks. Police did not confirm that on Sunday.
