A 53-year-old woman from Germany had more than just a guardian angel on Friday. She slipped on a stone slab during a mountain trip in the Kleinwalsertal in Vorarlberg and fell 150 meters through steep, rocky terrain. Miraculously, the hiker survived the horrific crash.
On Friday morning, three friends from Germany hiked in the Kleinwalsertal first to the top of the Kanzelwand and then to the Hammerspitze in the municipality of Riezlern. On an approximately five-foot-wide stretch of the ridge at an elevation of 2,000 meters, a 53-year-old woman in the group suddenly slipped on a stone slab covered with gravel.
As a result, the woman lost her balance and fell about 150 meters over steep rocky terrain. Her two companions immediately set the rescue chain in motion. Miraculously, the woman was rescued by the mountain rescue service and the crew of the Gallus 1 rescue helicopter, alive but seriously injured.
She was flown to the state hospital in Feldkirch and is now out of danger, according to police.
