Rescue Completed – Six employees rescued from cable car gondola

Date:

Nightmare scenario on the Feuerkogel (Upper Austria): Six cable car employees were trapped in a gondola for hours on Wednesday. The suspension cable may have come loose due to last night’s storm. “The rescue of people has been completed,” said Anna Hemetsberger, spokeswoman for the Ebensee Mountain Rescue Service.

Contrary to initial information, the trapped people could not be rescued from the gondola by the helicopter due to persistent gusts of wind. “Instead, the employees were skilfully tied up by the Ebensee mountain rescue service and then taken down to the valley by helicopter,” explains Rupert Schiefer, director of the Upper Austrian cable car holding company. All six people are healthy and doing well.

Stuck on inspection trip
As usual, the cable car employees had taken the first gondola of the day towards the top station, until the emergency stop was activated shortly after a support. The reason for this was probably a loose support cable. Because the problem could not be located directly from the power station, it was decided to carry out a rescue operation.

Try to solve it quickly
Now the analysis of the problem begins. Experts are already examining the cable car route in detail to repair the damage as quickly as possible. However, there will certainly be no cable car operation for the next two days. If you still want to admire the Traunsee from a great height, you can transfer to the Gmundner Grünberg, to which a cable car also leads. But if it has to be the top of the Feuerkogel at 1,592, bring good hiking boots, plenty of provisions, a mobile phone and physical fitness.
