Israel wants retaliation – Netanyahu: Airstrikes were just “the beginning”

Date:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced something dark in an address to the nation. After the attack on the country by the terrorist group Hamas, the massive bombardment of the Gaza Strip was just “the beginning.” What Israel will do in the coming days will “reverberate for generations.”

Netanyahu announced a “massive response” in his televised speech on Monday evening. He left open what exactly he meant by that. US government officials expect the Israeli government to launch a ground attack on the Gaza Strip within the next 48 hours.

Israel ready to “do anything”
Netanyahu announced that Israel was prepared to do “anything” to free the kidnapped civilians. He called on his political competitors to participate in a unity government. However, the opposition should offer itself “without preconditions”. He is referring to their demand that the right-wing extremist parts of the coalition be expelled from the government before an ’emergency government of national unity’ can be formed.

Meanwhile, Hamas threatened to kill captured Israeli civilians if Israel bombed the homes of civilians in the Gaza Strip without warning. Hamas spokesman Abu Obaida said Monday that the Israeli prisoners have so far been kept intact in accordance with the rules of Islam.

Herzog makes comparisons with the Holocaust
Israeli President Isaac Herzog also spoke emotional words to the population. He claimed that not since the Holocaust have so many Jews been murdered in one day as in Saturday’s Hamas terror attacks. “Not since the Holocaust have we seen Jewish women and children, grandparents – even Holocaust survivors – crammed into trucks and captured,” he said Monday evening, according to his spokesman.

Herzog’s statement in the video:

Hamas supporters also tortured innocent Muslims and other believers. Entire families were murdered in cold blood. “We will act with full force and unwavering commitment to eliminate this threat to our people,” he said.

Did Netanyahu Ignore Warnings?
The Israeli secret service is currently being criticized for failing to foresee the coordinated major attack. Netanyahu has denied media reports that Egypt had warned Israel of an attack from the Gaza Strip.

Such reports were “absolutely false,” his office said Monday. Israeli media had reported that Egypt’s intelligence chief, Abbas Kamel, had warned Netanyahu 10 days before the attacks that “something unusual, a terrible operation” was to be expected in the Gaza Strip area.

However, Netanyahu’s office said he had not spoken directly or indirectly to Kamel since the government was formed late last year.
